Menger ‘Casa De La Sirena’

The above 3 photos are the original Casita designed by Robin over 13 years ago.  The Living Room sofa and chairs were custom made.  The Dining table and coffee table are antiques.  The Dining chandelier was a special custom design of Mexican tin and beaded stars.  The Master 4 poster bed was also custom made to look like large bamboo posts.  This was a special house in a special place.  And then 12 years passed, and it was time to upgrade.  While much of the furnishings were still in great shape, there was still many new exciting things that could be added to upgrade this Casita and create the Casa De La Sirena…. or the Home of the Mermaid!

With this new concept, this Casita would be transformed into an even more incredible home than it originated!  As you enter the house, new iron with a shell motif was added to accent the door.  The Entry features an incredible shell collection and 3 dimensional plastered art painted tree.  The Living Room includes a new custom built and painted Mermaid Chair with Venetian lit side table.  Behind the Mermaid chair, you will find the original Dining chairs with new embroidery added, and original shell bar with newly added faux painting and iridescent glass tiles inside its walls. While the Master Bedroom stayed as beautiful as ever, pillows, and accessories were added to the bedroom and bathroom to create a more Mermaid and shell theme.

The terrace was upgraded with a new bar at the barbeque area, new fire pit relaxing chairs, and the unique designed vine along the pergola that provides the tin/beaded stars to hang above as you listen to waves of the beach and look into the starry night of the Cabo skies!  But that’s not all!! With this newly upgraded house, we were instrumental in the complete design of the Suite to be added above this already incredible Casita.  The new addition would include a custom tile design on the Entry and Kitchenette flooring and Bathroom with rounded glass tiled shower.  An antique bed was elevated with iron posts, and upholstered to add lush and comfort.  A special Mini Living Area with hand painted trunk and a beautiful commissioned art of the Sirena or Mermaid herself!  The upstairs Terrace featured a comfortable sitting area, small Dinette area, circular bed for relaxation and oversized swing for enjoying the wonderful Cabo Mountain, beach, and ocean view.  One of the most exciting features on this terrace is all the complex lighting including the multi fixture chandelier over the sitting area, the light grouping over the round bed and the special star tree in the corner by the swing.

All these features create an incredible ambiance at night!  Viva Mexico!  It was important during this addition to create the new suite and original Casita as if they were built during the same time period.  As much as construction had changed in over 10 years, we added glass to the original downstairs, and kept the original Saltillo and Cantera materials along with the new glass upstairs.  This along with the original cabinet designs would encompass the original feeling of the Casita to create a home that felt as though the New Suite was always there!

My career began working for a small company out of Houston and designing homes in Cabo.  It was one of my greatest moments to return to Cabo and redo my work from 12 years prior.  I would like to thank the Menger’s for inviting me to be a part of this incredible adventure and most exciting journey in my career!  It is truly “My Masterpiece!” – Robin Barker, owner IEML
